AND YOU THINK YOU ARE TIRED? J S BACH (1685-1750) 65 Years of life. Started to compose at age 15= 50 years to compose. Age 40-50 very little composing- uncertain reasons. Thus 40 years to compose, teach 6 hours per day, attend church 5 hour services on Sundays, sleep, attend family matters, some travel, illnesses. Thus 40 years times 365 days = 14600 days times 24 hours=350,400 hours. 52 Sundays times 40 years=2080 days times 5 hours=10,400 hours. Funerals and weddings to play for 2 per week times 52 weeks= 104 times 40 years =4160 times 2 hours=8320 hours Teaching 6 hours per day times 6 days per week= 36 hours times 52 weeks times 40 years = 74,880 hours. Sleeping 8 hours per night times 365 days = 2920 per year times 40 years= 116,800 hours. Grand total of just these is 210,320 hours. His lifetime was 350,400 hours minus 210,320 for the above =140,080 hours to compose over 1100 compostitions that we now know of not counting the ones that were lost= one composition for every 127 hours of his life. And this includes as one work such great masterpeices such as the B Minor Mass,Goldberg Variations,Passions,Art of Fugue and the like. Also we know that Bach wrote a cantata for each Sunday service. These cantatas usually lasted 20 minutes in length each or 5000 minutes worth of music just for this output. AND YOU THINK YOU ARE TIRED?
